Sheet Mulching a Keyhole Bed
Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 11:42PM Up at Country Haven, kissed by the raindrops we built a West Coast style Sheet Mulch in the shape of a keyhole bed.
Billy selected a perfect site in his zone 1 gardens for this task.

We moved our supplies to the area. Compost, manure, hay, soil, cardboard and newspaper.

We poured some nitrogen rich pee on the ground.

Next we lay down cardboard. Since it was raining we did not need to wet it down.

We mapped out the keyhole shape so we were all on the same page.

A layer of hay went over the path. Dirt, manure and compost was the bottom layer of the sheet mulch.

Next was a layer of newspaper.

Onto this went a generous amount of hay.

Now came the seaweed full of nutrients of all kinds.

In a very short time we had put together the basic foundation for a sheet mulch bed.

Thanks to Mary for the photographs.
